Are Texas Lawmakers Turning Their Backs on Public Education and Our Future?

Impact on Wise County Schools to be Discussed in Bridgeport

Bridgeport, Texas–A panel discussion sponsored by the Texas Democratic Women of Wise County  (TDW-WC) concerning the future of public schools in Wise County will be held beginning at 6:00 p.m., Monday, February 13, at Bridgeport Estates, 1481 Senior Place Road, Bridgeport, Texas.

“This community awareness event is designed to encourage dialogue between special interest groups who are experts on the issues and can answer any questions that involve our children, grandchildren, teachers, administrators and, of course, the taxpayers,” according to Tracy A. Smith, president of the TDW-WC.

“The TDW-WC encourages a bipartisan effort on education,” Smith said. “We hope that many people of all backgrounds or political influence choose to attend and join in on the discussion.”

The bipartisan meeting’s purpose is to discuss and identify current and future challenges facing Wise County school districts, Texas’ controversial new A-F Accountability Rating System, Senate Bill 3 (also known as the School Voucher Bill), which some believe could divert money away from public education in Texas, and other possible actions during the current legislative session.

Featured panelists scheduled to appear include:

  • Bobby Rigues, a member of the Aledo (Texas) ISD Board of Trustees and a passionate advocate for Texas public schools. Rigues was named the Texas School Public Relations Association’s Key Communicator for Make Education a Priority Foundation
  • Pastor JD Allen , Member of Boyd ISD District Site-Based/District of Innovation Committee, Co-Founder of WCCC. Texas Impact board member, and pastor of First United Methodist Church of Boyd. Wise County Community Coalition

The event is open to the public and School Board Trustees, Administrators and Teachers are encouraged to Attend.
