The Texas Democratic Party held the first annual Lyndon B. Johnson Dinner on May 8th in Austin with a great cast of speakers. Sen. Sylvia Garcia was Mistress of Ceremony for the evening. There to tell their stories and get the crowd fired up were Rep. Senfronia Thompson, and our two great candidates, Sen. Wendy Davis and Sen. Leticia Van de Putte.
The headline speaker was U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa, introduced by former Lt. Gov. Ben Barnes. Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa began the celebration and introduced the statewide candidates and recognized other candidates in the audience and elected officials. Sen. Harkin was wonderful – he is a great speaker and interspersed his speech with comments of things he had heard from previous speakers, including what TDW Past President and TDP Sergeant at Arms Donna Beth McCormick said about it being the year of the woman and elaborated on how important we are.
Other TDW board members/committee chairs Susan Shelton and Tina Hanna as well as Fredricka Phillips, Suburban Southwest President and TDP Vice Chair candidate were all there.
It was a huge crowd and a great fundraiser for the Texas Democratic Party.
