MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 28, 2016 MEETING
TEXAS DEMOCRATIC WOMEN-HARRIS COUNTY METRO
Board members present: Laura Nicol, Kathy Stabe, Mary Morrison, Marie Dobay, Almeda Dent, Lenora Sorola-Pohlman, and Edna Griggs
President Laura Nicol called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.. Elected officials present were: Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan; Judge Julia Maldonado of the 507th Family Court; and Judge Robert Johnson of the 177th Civil District Court.
The following announcements were made: Members were reminded of the Houston Independent School District run-off election for District 7 and invited to participate in phone banks and block walks and attend a meet-and-greet with candidate Anne Sung; TDWHarris is now accepting nominees for its annual Women Making History awards luncheon; in lieu of a meeting in the month of December, members were invited to attend a potluck holiday party at President Laura Nicol’s home and/or a party hosted by the Spring Branch Democrats at Fratelli’s Ristorante, with details to follow by e-mail; TDWHarris officers will be elected at the next meeting, on January 23, 2017; and members were invited to get more involved and join one of the various committees that are part of helping to keep TDWHarris running smoothly.
The minutes from the October 24, 2016 meeting were read and unanimously approved.
The Treasurer reported a balance of $9,000.00.
The November speaker was Keir Murray, who spoke about the results of the November 8, 2016 elections, including the fact that Harris County was flipped Blue, with every countywide position up for election in which there was a Democrat candidate going to the Democrat, and how Democrats need to focus on the mid-term elections in order to take back Congress from Republican legislators.
