I hope everybody attended their County/Senate District Conventions last month! I know I had a great time at mine. Many of our fellow Texas Democratic Women will be heading to San Antonio for the Texas Democratic Party Convention, and I’m excited to see how our Women’s Caucus is shaping up.
We have a lot of details to work out still, but the Women’s Caucus will be on Friday morning. TDW helps produce the Ladybird Breakfast on Saturday morning at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, and we’d love your help decorating the ballroom the night before. We’re also having our booth at the convention again, so if you’re interested in taking a shift at the table and serving as an ambassador to our state organization and local chapters, please let us know! Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to volunteer. You do not have to be a delegate to the convention to help staff the TDW booth or decorate the ballroom, but if you want to attend the Women’s Caucus, you’ll need to be a delegate or have a guest pass to the convention. Visit http://texasdemocraticconvention.com/ for details on the TDP Convention, and I look forward to seeing you all at the Alamodome!
Before we get to the runoff elections, we have municipal elections coming up. Early Vote for the May 7th election opens on April 25th, and ends Tuesday May 3rd. Our own Past President, Laura Allen, is running for school board in the Killeen Independent School District on May 7th, so please make sure you let friends and family know about every election coming up! May municipal elections commonly have low turnout, but we can make a difference when we participate in force.
Likewise, runoff elections can also suffer from low turnout. Mark your calendars for these Primary Runoff dates:
- Monday, April 25: Last day to register to vote
- Monday, May 16: First day of Early Vote
- Friday, May 13: Last day to apply for ballot by mail (received)
- Friday, May 20: Last day of Early Vote
- Tuesday, May 24: Runoff Election Day & Last day ballots by mail can be received
We love to hear of TDW Members stepping up to run. Tell us how it’s going in your area so we can share the good news across the state. Every race matters.
Lastly, I want to make sure you know about the TDW Summer Retreat on August 6, 2016. Hosted by the Greater Arlington Mansfield Democratic Women and the Tarrant County Democratic Women’s Club, we’ll be gathering for informative workshops and networking with strong Democratic women from all over the state. More details will follow, but be sure to save the date!
We are always Stronger Together,
President, Texas Democratic Women
