I would like to thank all of you for attending our 25th Anniversary convention. It was good to see such enthusiasm and passion everyone had at the convention. This was one of the most well attended conventions I had ever seen and I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves. Now, I ask that we look beyond the convention and focus on how much work is needed to win our seats back this election cycle. We cannot let 2010 dampen our enthusiasm; there is so much at stake for all of us if we can’t get our democrats elected. We need to be strong and organized and I do believe we are ready for the challenge.
I believe that when The Texas Democratic Women was founded 25 years ago it created many opportunities for women; helping to educate, inform and empower. I am proud to see the diversity and also to see young women with aspirations. We want to lead the way for our next generation of women and to get them involved in the political process.
Yes in this past election we had some big disappointments and the 2011 legislative session pushed us back a few steps. But I believe that we are committed individuals that will not sit back but take this as a challenge. We have to remember that we are big contributors in more ways than one. We accomplish with what we can contribute; our determinations, to stand tall in what we believe and to never give up trying. That is the power behind every woman, this is the contribution we bring to the table and nothing should stand in our way. I know that all of you are talented and all of you are driven, but I know none of us can do it alone, but together we can!
Our colors this year are “Blue & Silver”. Blue is for the power to turn this state Blue and Silver for the many celebrations to come.
The Texas Democratic Women are leading the way!
I look forward to a great year not only for Texas Democratic women but for winning Texas in 2012.
