Letters for convention sponsors are going out. Since we need to raise $20,000, I need everyone’s help. It is our convention and my wish would be to have each TDW chapter to commit to some amount – $50 or more – to be a real part of the convention. In the program all of the contributing chapters will be recognized.
Here is a convention update and there is a lot to be done – we are five months out and that time will go by very quickly.Fundraising: I need suggestions for letters to be sent to prospective donors in your area. If you want to send the letters yourself, I’ll forward you my letter complete with the categories. The categories will be attached to this letter as a separate page.
Star Awards/State Awards: Forms have been sent to the chapters. It is not too early to get your nominees in although the deadline is in December. This year, there will be an all inclusive program with awardees, sponsors, chapters, etc.
Workshops: we have these workshops planned –
– Getting women out to vote
– Treasurer reporting and record keeping
– Organizing your county or your precinct
– Social media, how to promote your chapter and yourself
There will be a meeting of all of the presidents for discussion of ideas.
Auction: this is very vital part of our convention and fundraising for candidates and I hope that every chapter will contribute at least two items. We also need a chapter to head up this committee.
Hospitality Suite: Capital Area Democratic Women. Thank you, my chapter! We have a large chapter, we are in Austin, and it will be more convenient than for other chapters to bring stuff many miles.
Entertainment: do you still want to go to Esther’s Follies? Let me know. If not, suggestions are open for other entertainment on Friday night.
Registration: Bexar County has volunteered to be responsible for this. Thank you! They were the first chapter to step up and volunteer.
Vendors: do you have something to sell from your chapter? Do you have suggestions for vendors and things that you would like to shop for. Remember, we need to support those vendors with our dollars.
Food: I am looking at a lighter fare for lunch. Hopefully with a lighter fare we will have a lighter price! I do want to have more than a sandwich plate because this is when we honor our Stars and a nice plate is in order. Dinner is a time we award the state awardees. This year I am exploring some musical entertainment after the dinner.
Dinner and Lunch speaker topics: – we are strong Democratic women and we need ideas and motivation to get us out and about.
Centerpieces for the lunch and dinner – I know that there are chapters that are more creative than me and can modify the lunch centerpieces to become the dinner centerpieces and perhaps we can auction them off or have a drawing.
Newsletter and Scrapbook Awards: we have some very creative folks. Perhaps they can also help with decorations.
Communications – programs, signs, press releases – Sharon Teal, our Vice President, will be in charge of this with help from me and others.
Let me know your thoughts. But most of all, I need for you to step up and take one of the categories – time’s ticking!
